Victoria takes four medals on day one

2009 Australian Junior Track Cycling Championships, Adelaide, March 19-21. Victoria has finished day one of the 2009 Australian Junior Track Championships in Adelaide with one gold, a silver and two bronze medals. Jaron Gardiner (Ararat & District CC) claimed Victoria's first gold in the JM17 time trial, with the 2007 sprint champion covering the 500m distance in 34.330seconds. In the JM17 team pursuit, the Victorian quartet of Jack Cummings (Carnegie Caulfield CC), Evan Hull (Ararat & Districts CC), Shaun O'Callaghan (Brunswick CC) and George Tansley (Bendigo & Districts CC) posted the fastest time in afternoon qualifying (3:28.449), and shaved a further three seconds off their time in the final. However despite this great effort, it was still not good enough to get on the top step of the podium, with the New South Wales team riding a blistering final to set a new Australian record of 3mins 22.859secs. The Victorians a further two and a half seconds back in 3:25.325. Braeden Dean (Bendigo & District CC) took bronze in his his championships debut, recording a time of 37.966 seconds in the JM15 time trial. Dual 2008 national champion Imogen Jelbart (Bendigo & District CC) teamed with Natasha Langedyk (Geelong CC) to defeat Victorian team mates Caitlin Ward (Blackburn CC) and Adele Sylvester (Blackburn CC) for JW17 team sprint bronze.
