2012 Victorian Track Team

Cycling is pleased to announce the 22-member Victorian track cycling team that will contest the Australian Track Cycling Championships in Adelaide, January 26 - January 29.

The Victorian Elite men's selections is headlined by 2011 UCI World Champion Shane Perkins (Carnegie-Caulfield CC).   He is joined by fellow Team Jayco AIS member Jason Niblett (Horsham CC) and 2006 Commonwealth Games points race champion Sean Finning (Castlemaine CC).  Jaron Gardiner (Ararat & District CC) joins the elite ranks to take on his first Elite National Championships after winning the 2011 Junior World Championship in the Time Trial.  Tyler Spurrell (Blackburn CC), Ben Abels (Brunswick CC) and 2011 Junior National Champion Rick Sanders (Carnegie Caulfield CC) will round out the team for the Elite Men.

The Elite Women's Selections are Junior World Silver medallist Adele Sylvester  (Carnegie Caulfield CC  and recent BMX transfer Ziggy Callan (Carnegie Caulfield CC) who will lead the women's team in the sprint events. Laine Hammond (Northcote CC) who has shown all around abilities in 2011 will feature throughout the Championships.

An impressive under 19 mens group features Jack Cummings (Carnegie Caulfield CC) and Alex Morgan (Blackburn CC) who were part of the gold medal winning team pursuit at the Junior World Championships. On the sprint side Emerson Harwood (Blackburn CC) and Jacob Schmid (Carnegie Caulfield CC) will provide a powerful 1-2 combination.  

The under 19 Women will be lead by Imogen Jelbart (Bendigo & District CC).  Along with Jelbart will be former J17 Australian Champions Ruby Greig-Hurtig (Carnegie Caulfield CC), who will make her debut in the senior ranks, and Caitlin Ward from the Blackburn Cycling Club.  Lauretta Hansen (Macedon Ranges CC) will compete at her second senior national titles and her consistent string of personal bests in 2011 puts her in strong contention to be a factor at the Nationals.
